Workshop Description

Who This Workshop Is For: This workshop is designed for older adults who want to feel more confident and safer online. It’s ideal for beginners, those who feel unsure about technology, or anyone who has received suspicious emails, texts, phone calls, or messages and wants practical, easy-to-follow guidance. Caregivers and family members supporting older adults are also welcome. Please note* Caregivers who wish to actively participate, practice, or receive materials must register separately (For more information, refer to our FAQ page). Accessibility note: No tech experience needed—this session moves at a comfortable pace with simple explanations and hands-on support. AI for Fraud Prevention & Safety: Scams are becoming more sophisticated—but so are the tools to protect yourself. In this 90-minute, beginner-friendly workshop, older adults will learn how to use AI, specifically ChatGPT, as a practical everyday assistant to help spot scams, avoid fraud, and respond safely when something doesn’t feel right. This hands-on session is paced gently and grounded in real-world situations seniors face every day—such as suspicious emails, text messages, phone calls, and websites. Participants will practice how to ask AI clear, simple questions to help verify information and make safer decisions online. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to: • Understand what AI and ChatGPT are (in plain language) • Use step-by-step prompts to check emails, texts, calls, and links • Recognize common scams that often target older adults • Know what to do if you think you’ve been scammed or clicked something unsafe—and how AI can help guide next steps • Build confidence through interactive practice and group discussion Participants will also receive practical tips and resources to help stay safe online long after the workshop ends.
